Hi,
My partner and I are looking to open a joint bank account (and savings account) after recently getting engaged and moving in together.
Their credit rating is perfect and literally gets the best deal on anything. Mine one the other hand has improved greatly in the past two years and is now average after some silly behavior when I was 18-19 years (five years ago).
I have a semi-basic flex account with Nationwide, no overdraft or cheque book and last time I tried (around a year and a half ago) I could not upgrade to a full account, however in the past year I have acquired a second, decent Captial One card and my rating has improved and have taken steps over the last two years to massively improve my rating. They have a HSBC Advance account.
We have a joint income of around £53k. How will any of the above affect getting a decent joint account? My gut feeling is to go with HSBC as their rating with them is superb and they hold Current, Savings, Credit and a small loan with them???
Any advice would be great, thanks!!!

General advice is don't do it. The second you share a financial product your financial past will start to have an impact on your partner's ability to get credit.0

I agree. I wouldn't do it. Its not really worth the risk. Give it two more years of good credit and it'll be ok.0

If it's only a current account you're after, and not any borrowing, then it's highly unlikely HSBC will reject your application, unless you actually have adverse credit (CCJs etc). Before you ask, yes, I work for a bank, but no, I didn't get a bonus!0
