When viewing this single post, the thread it comes from is listed at the very top-right. Click this and it takes you back to the thread but the url in the address bar now links to that post in the thread - so you can copy that
I'll update the a-z about this when I get a sec0 -

Each post has a number at the top-right. Click that and it shows that post on its own.
So if as per the original question, you want to link "to a particular post", just simply copy the url in the address bar at this point.sra wrote:When viewing this single post, the thread it comes from is listed at the very top-right. What you have suggested is useful if you want a link, to display a thread starting at a particular post. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
MSE_Martin wrote:Tonight we took the site down to reverse the recent changes. Having got a big new super-dooper database server, sadly when we shifted the forums over, it simply couldn't cope, it wasn't tweaks and the fault couldn't be found.
As it was so slow, tonight the techie team worked really hard to temporarily move us back to the old server; which while smaller is correctly optomised and performed better. This means we're still not without glitches, and there'll be database errors - but the site should at least stay online.
Sorry its all a hassle, trust me, its more for us. We're doing the best we can and Im detmined to get these forums more zippy than Rainbow.

Your team has my full sympathy - keep at it guys. I for one know it's easy to sit on the sidelines and comment, it's MUCH harder to actually make it work0 -
Just an idea but what about turning auto prune on you have a database that has data going back to 2004, surely if you only kept a years worth of data that would be enough ? its should make the database a lot smaller escpecialy as some of the threads probably hold links to external sites / images and some of them may not exist anymore so causing increased traffic ??
Its also self maintenance really as its a rolling year.
Just an idea.If it doesnt pay rent sell it.
