I got nearly 30 emails on a thread I am subscribing to this morning and when I went in to read it there were only 2 new posts.
Despite this problem I was under the impression that there should only be the one email no matter how many posts are made when I am not using the forums. If you are patient in one moment of anger, you will escape 100 days of sorrow.......Chinese proverb

I use Firefox which has a rotating symbol that shows in the tab when a page is loading up and disappears when it has finished, except on MSE where it continues to rotate.
Anybody know why?
OK so its working normal now, I assume it was due to the problems you were having.0 -
A very big thank you to Martin and his team for upgrading the servers.
Hope you buy the techie bods a big drink!!
Those who would like a better organised / moderated site can volunteer their services.
It's free to use but it's still Martin's site. A few more people could do well to remember that.

Yes, looked at the stats earlier - over 5,000 on-line... And it has been a lot better tonight.0

MarkyMarkD wrote:If you search for things and they are found within a 48 page thread, the search returns the thread's first post - a complete waste of time. You then have to do another search within that thread for the same thing you just searched for - why??? I didn't even realise the "search within" function existed until this month - I'm sure I'm not alone.
If you go to the advanced search page, there is an option to display posts instead of threads, this should show the post with the searched word highlighted. It may give you a couple of similar results if the word has been repeated via quoting, but it certainly should narrow it down a bit from 48 pages.0 -
Firstly, I'd like to join everyone else in thanking Martin and especially the techie guys who are working so hard to keep this forum going. A beer on me!
Secondly, can I suggest a "technical updates" section on the main site? Appreciate that the problems of the last few days have been specific to the upgrade and that usually there are no problems, but it's always nice to know whether it's you with the problem or the site.
But please think of that as a minor request - really ever so grateful for you guys keeping the forum going!Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

I have some sympathy with MarkyMarkD and post 11.
Is there any way we can easily point to a particular post, rather than a page of a thread - I'd stop repeating myself then...
...or may this can be done and I've not learnt how to yet..please let me know.

but I'd say this site is excellent and I'm absolutely sure many people have been helped to save money and resolve stressful situations...
round of applause for the MSE team0 -

Like this you mean?
Try reading the FAQ, it's much more interesting than Part P. More useful too!
:rotfl::doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
