Ripe bananas give off ethylene, and this acts as a ripening hormone on other fruit.

Raven - you have done what I did last year - you have planted Shirley tomatoes outside. When they seemed to be very slow to ripen I did a bit of research and found out that they are really a greenhouse tomato

Nevertheless I just left them to it and sure enough time sorted it out beautifully - they just ripened after all my other varieties :)

A gardening expert recommended hanging banana skins over your tomato plants to help the fruit ripen, so maybe try saving your skins after you've eaten them. You won't waste any bananas this way either!

I'm a bit surprised you've had none ripen up yet.
I'm in the middle of a glut but it might be i started off earlier than you did.

I'm getting lots of ripe tomatoes on the vine too, but I grow all mine in pots and keep them outside in a very sunny, sheltered spot in sunny Kent. I water once or twice a day and feed once a week. One end of my rows is giving more ripe tomatoes than the other end, so I think it is just a case of waiting, Raven

I planted the seeds in March and April. The March seed plantings of Sungolds' are giving lots of tomatoes every day; the April seeds of Super Sweet 100, have given about 10 ripe tomatoes.

What surprised me was that I have already picked 3 large (225g each) ripe Black Krim tomatoes! Although I planted the seeds in March for Black Krim, the 1 plant that has given me the 3 ripe tomaotes so far, went from it's paper seed pot, straight into it's large final pot as I had run out of middle size pots. Has anyone else found this with their tomatoes?

Black Krim and Super Sweet 100 seeds were brought from ebay for pennies. The Black Krim seeds were a real bargain; 100 seeds for 99p plus postage of 50p. I just planted 20 of them and 19 germinated. Sungold seeds brought from Wilkinsons.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.
