    My dad's a builder and used to build council houses with these in. IIRC he said you were supposed to rotate them so that the bird didn't always face in the same direction to give a more random pattern. He definitely called them bird tiles.

    I agree - hideous!

    I don't like the raised kitchen either - if I had to live somewhere like that I reckon I'd be falling up or down that step at least daily :o
