Equifax and Vanquis account number change

I received an Equifax credit file update alert by email this morning. They have reported something that I think is a bit strange.

For some reason, it appears that Vanquis have deleted my account ending 9999 (obviously, for the purpose of this post, I'm not going to report the real ending), and have added a new account ending 8888.

The account was due for payment on 4th August (which I paid in full), which is the same date that they made the Equifax update.

Had I not used the card this morning, I'd have guessed that they're about to issue me with a new card. The fact that the transaction went through ok, I guess they probably aren't (the existing one has a few years to run on it yet).

Are they changing my credit limit? Could be, I guess, but they did this a couple of months ago without changing anything with Equifax (other than to report a new credit limit).

Can anybody think why they'd change my account number?

Reportedly, Vanquis are changing their system so that your accuont reference is not the same as the card number. If you have a DD set up you will find the reference number for that changes to something other than your card number, too.

Why do they do this? Lord knows. Just another convoluted process that is sure to lead to Vanquis messing something up... It's bad enuough they use Santander for their clearing...

Thanks. I'm sure they'll find a way to mess it up!

I wasn't aware there was a problem with Santander.

This is weird, I had the exact same thing, except I haven't had a Vanquis account for about 18 months, it was settled and closed on my credit report, so why they've updated it I don't know.

A dispute via Equifax has been raised, might shed some light.

Although it's reassuring to know it's not just me, I was beginning to wonder whether someone had opened an account fraudulently, what with the rainforest of junk mail Vanquis keep sending out!
