Your right at 27 you really don't need the added pressure ... Or the chest pains ... You've done the right thing ... Feeding two people is costly ... Gas and electricity for two is costly ... Losing your single persons council tax discount is costly ... Your not saying never your just saying not now ... Good luck0

feeling more positive today after a bad week at work. Been doing these surveys on one poll that i have heard about some i started filling and they said thanks but no thanks which is a bit frustrating but keep checking each evening.Got about £75 coming from Quidco shortly so that will be going into the mortgage fund also excited about paying extra on pay day.
started doing more cooking out of my pantry and haven't really spent much on food.
Also i'm considering putting some money aside for Christmas how much does everyone set aside?SPC member 68

Hi Cozza,
Well done for being so level headed and sensible.
I piggy bank Christmas savings at £30.50 per month. I also have savings accounts for clothes (£35pm), birthdays (£15pm), entertainment (£50pm), tobacco (£50pm) and car maintenance, insurance, etc at £75pm. My OH and I have £15 pocket money each per week which we each spend (or save) as we see fit with no come backs or complaints. OH has to buy his beer from this (and whatever I fancy if I fancy it comes from mine).
The grocery challenge is a monthly thread on MSE where posters sign up and set themselves their own budget for each month (or some do it weekly through the month). The important thing with the forum is that it is purely supportive (and inspirational, friendly, has great tips and brilliant recipes!) so there is no competition, except for each individual with their personal budget. The households on the forum are varied, as you would expect, from single people through to large families. If you'd like to take a look at it you can find the August Grocery Challenge here.
Hope that helps and keep up the great work,

We would highly recommend going for a standing order as soon as your paid. If you treat it just as you would any other bill, the payments run in the background without you even noticing and what you haven't had you don't miss. We have never been able to figure out why trying to keep your money till the end of the month and then over pay always leaves you with less! Just shows we all fritter when given the chance.
If you end up suffering chest pains with stress from being left to cover all the bills it's definitely the right move to show him the door and that's coming from a man !

Just want to say that I think mortgage free by 40 is a great goal (and not just because that is my goal too!)
I've been overpaying for about 18 months now, am loving the fact that each month I over pay is a month or more I am giving myself back in the future
As RosieTiger suggested, if you can put a standing order out just after payday then this works really well as you forget you had the moneyMortgage Free since January 2018!0 -
Thanks everyone will set up a standing order on pay day makes sense really, get the feeling my parents think i'm crazy for setting myself this kind of goal, when i asked if they overpay they seemed quite shocked does anyone else get this reaction from family or friends?SPC member 68
