HTC Wildfire S freezing?

I got a new HTC Wildfire S less than 2 weeks ago. Tried to switch it on yesterday afternoon but nothing. Went into the Carphone Warehouse where I bought the phone and the assistant took the back off, removed the battery and put it back and the phone worked.

He then told me that this is common with android phones and suggested that I check on the HTC website to see if there is any software that I can download to sort this out. Other than that I assume I will have to take the back off every time it freezes.

Is he right about this? I don't want to be in a situation where I need my mobile only to find it's frozen and the battery is drained.

It's my first android phone, so I wasn't sure if this was a known problem with them. I am worried that I won't be able to take the back off easily myself as I have arthritis.

Should not be freezing like that - unless its some app you are running - if an update can fix problem, fine.
Whilst phones can freeze, it should not be doing that straight out of the box.

But if it does not, then you need to get back to that shop and quote the Sale of Goods Act - 28 days to claim its not fit for purpose.

Thanks, if it happens again I will be straight back to the shop. Not running any apps that I'm aware of - still finding my way around the thing so unlikely that I've set anything running.
