I have been offered another job at another branch of where I work. My boss told me to ask for more money than what I am on under her seeing as I will be using more petrol to get there but I don't know how to broach the topic, or even if I will be asked anyway so I might have to bring it up!!! I really hope I don't have to do this!
I've asked for pay rises before but then its been a easier since I had worked at my old place for x months/years and my loyality should be rewarded, I also used the petrol arguement and it worked every time but its a bit different when you haven't even started the job yet!
Anyone got any tips for me? I hate tlaking about money and asking for rises and such like.
Thanks
Ps - I'm going to tal to them tomorrow afternoon about it so any speedy replies will get big drinks from me!

Lots of people hate talking about money as well, you're not alone.
If your only goal through is to stay "neutral" then this should be quite easy. Generally, I'd try and use it as an excuse to get a little more!
Is the job exactly the same as your current one?Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

No. The new one is marketting, the current one is receptionist.0

Surely it should be a better paid job anyway? More responsibility etc. Just casually ask what salary increase you will be getting. After all they have offered you the job so they obviously want you. If they say it will be the same just ask for time to think about the new position as you will be effectively be earning less money than before. I'm sure they will make you an offer you can't refuse!
Well done by the way
Good start to the new year. 0 -
Hi,
If you have a job description for your new role, go onto a job website and have a look to see what kind of salaries other companies are paying for similar roles. This way, when you discuss finances with your boss, you will already have an idea of what the "market value" of your new role will be. If they offer you less than the average, tell them what the average is (slightly exaggerate it) and that is what you would like to be paid! By doing it this way, you remove the emotion out of the conversation and it makes it easier (well it works for me anyway!)
Well done on the new job and good luck.0 -
Thanks guys.
Thing is, its a part time role and I haven't seen a marketting job that is part time anyway, and its only a temporary thing anyway. They were looking at the costs to get in a temp, the cost of which would be £9.50 an hour... reckon I could get that?! :rotfl: I don't have experience in marketting anyway which won't help. My manager has spoken to who I am working with/under down at the other branch and the DP from my place knows too, they've both agreed its only fair apparently but I wonder how much!
If only it didn't have to be spent on petrol!0 -

If they're willing to spend £9.50/hr on a temp then they should be perfectly happy to pay the same to someone who can then learn marketing skills and be an asset to the company.
What you can't do is irrelevant. No one is born with marketing skills. Make it quite clear you're willing to learn, develop and are ambitious.
Best of luck!Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world
