Travelodge refund

Can anyone tell me if I can get a refund on the 3 nights I have booked with travelodge? I paid the extra £1.50 per night for what I though was insurance so that I could get a refund if I needed to cancel but looking on their website it looks like it's just insurance against cancellation? I can be a bit thick sometimes so can I cancel and get my money back or not? The rooms were sale rooms and too be honest I want to cancel because I've just checked them out on Trip advisor and they sound disgusting and as the 3 nights were part of a 25th anniversary treat for my husband and I, I don't want to take the chance on a nightmare!

Before yo do anything drastic tell us which Travelodge you have booked into and we will give our opinion on it.
Ive stayed in a few Travelodges and they have always been clean, modern and with really good service.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I saw that insurance on their website too, and I believe it's insurance against "outwith your control" cancellation, for instance car breakdown.Everybody dies, but not everyone truly lives0

It's 1 night at Saltash and 2 at Roborough, both are down towards Devon/Cornwall. I'm really cross with myself as I normally always check with tripadvisor! But I was so pleased to get the right days in the sale! Arghhhhh! I totally accept it's my fault !!

Dont beat yourself up.
Let me put it this way, the amount of people over the year who stay there must run into thousands, who presumably have been okay with it. It's only the few on Tripadvisor that you are taking notice of, probably less than half a percent. Can yu look it up on the website.
All the Travelodges we have stayed in have been either classic or really modern, clean, comfortable, shower/bath.
I think youre overthinking to be honest.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Your probably right McKneff! Well at least I've learned 1 lesson - don't buy insurance with travelodge for sale rooms as it's invalid!! I stil feel that they shouldn't sell it if it's not applicable to the product! It's a bit like selling insurance for a car when the customer is buying a bicycle! Oh well you live and learn!

Have you actually spoken to them about this insurance, it may apply, but if youve booked it, you might miss actually having a good time.
And...........have a good time.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Yep I e-mailed them - they confirmed that the insurance is invalid for sale rooms? So I e-mailed them back that I was going to contact trading standards, since they were offering a product which was unuseable? I'm not good with words but as I said it's as though they are selling car insurance for a bicycle! Never mind we will just have to hope the reviews have persuaded TL to sort the place out? Lol!

"Invalid" in the sense that you cannot just change your mind and ask for a refund. The insurance would also be inapplicable to rooms booked at the flexible rate (in the present circumstances) since you are allowed to cancel up to mid day of the scheduled date of arrival.
As parahandy says it is for the purpose of things happening outside of your control, like illness, breakdowns or travel hold ups.
I can see how it would appear confusing for first time bookers. You have to go through a bit of a learning curve when using travelodge.
I just looked on their web site and it says you only pay £1.50 for the room regardless of the length of stay. So possibly you have over-paid unwittingly. Perhaps someone could clarify that point.
Have to say I agree with McKneff. Some travelodges in city centres can be pretty rough, especially at the week-ends, but many others are excellent. I have always had good experiences with them.
If I had taken notice of reviews, on tripadvisor, and other forums, I would have missed out on many good pubs, hotels and restaurants.
I always take reviews with a pinch of salt and go take a look myself.0 -

I don't think you'll get very far with that. It's not that the inusrance is 'invalid' it's just that, like pretty much any form of holiday / travel insurance, it's to cover cases where you not able to go because you are ill, or called up for jury service, or have a car breakdown. It doesn't mean you can get your money back if you simply decide that you don't want to go.0 -
I realize now that I've been a complete numpty - I stupidly thought that I was buying peace of mind and that I would be able to change or get a refund on the booking! It's my age! And the fact that I've been married 25 years LOL!!!!! I will just have to pray that trip advisors is wrong and that it isn't a grungy hole!!! I will let you know in October!
Cheers
