India help...

i am on the hunt for information for holidays in india. I basically want to go on tiger safari and see some of the main city sights (taj mahal, delhi etc) however most of the trips im looking at seem to be frequented by 50+, we would like something with a younger age group, but is fairly all inclusive with regard to guided trips and food. Also i would prefer nice hotels :)

Any ideas as to companies (pref abta or atol protected) that could be recommended.

Many thanks

Have you looked at something like Explore? Or are you looking at something more like the likes of Kuoni would offer?

https://www.indiamike.com is your no1 resource for any travel/tourism related matters regarding India. Site is huge so you will maybe need a week off to sift thru all the info

yup! IndiaMike.com has a forum with loads of info and knowledgeable posters.
Also get copies of the RoughGuide and the Lonely Planet.
Both have websites with more info.

Mainly it's only the 50+ that can afford it.
  • We took our 17 yr old son on a similar holiday in India and he had to spend the whole time with all the 50+ people who were with us. We have been on 4 of these type of holidays and were all of a certain age.
Same as Bob says - these holidays are not at the cheaper end of the market so tend not to attract young people

Yes, India doesn't tend to appeal very much to the "Club 18-30" crowd so you'll find most tourists are either wealthy 50+'s looking for 5* comfort or are gap year backpackers travelling on £10 a day.

Because of this, hotels in India tend to be either a) very cheap or b) very expensive with very little in the middle as mass market Western tourism hasn't taken off - apart from, maybe, Goa. One of the most expensive hotels I have stopped in the world was in Delhi (fortunately I wasn't paying). It can be quite shocking to find yourself stopping in a hotel which costs £200 a night and realise the staff there are on a few pounds a week.

If you like "nice" hotels then you may have to pay a lot for it.

    I can highly recommend

They will tailor any tour to what you want. Also you have a private car and driver/guide. Similar tours with major companies cost a fortune. Flights to Delhi are relatively cheap.

  • Thank you all so much for your replies, very helpful! :)

I'll look into explore. I had been looking at kuoni, thompson and travelsphere. found thompson really expensive but quite like the look of the kuoni and page and moy ones. I notice the ones that are aimed at younger groups have tents and things but I'm not a tent person.

I am usually not a escorted trip type person, but others have advised me is best for india... The two occasions when I have done them (in africa and kenya) I was in my early 20's but with my mom, now in early 30's with the parter, so we might notice the older age group...

I've just had a quick look on indiamike, I think that will take some time to take in, but the link is much appreciated!

Its given me some things to look at for now thank you :)

It might be part of India but Goa 'is not India'
  • I finally booked and plumped for kuoni as they are marginally younger and include all i want to do.

My next thing for pondering would be insurance.

I want to get disruption cover (if a volcano decides to pop, or if the weather is bad (i'm going in February), who is good for coverage of india?? or are they much of a muchness.

    any ideas???
    Thank you
