Must be my hard drive screwed too. Never buying a PB again. My last Advent computer lasted 10 years, with upgrades I added.
I managed to get the display working for Ubuntu, but it couldn't find a drive, unless I plugged in my usb one. Tried all other methods too.
This is similar to the problem I had just a year under warranty (thankfully) when PC world, ended up replacing the mobo, cd/dvd drive, and hard drive approx 18 months ago.
My cd/dvd drive will only work on one sata slot with my hard drive plugged in, but works on all of them if its disconnected, so my hard drive is faulty.
Will look for a reasonably priced hard drive on Amazon. Sure its SATA 2 for my mobo, although may be wrong. Don't think it matters.0 -
Just received my new hard drive this morning! :j
Installed perfectly, so got a lovely new system for just over £200 (if you count the graphics card I bought previously).:j:j
In Windows performance, my gaming graphics is now 6.1, although desktop Aero a paltry 4.6, plus performance, and processor at 6.9.
Over the moon, although worth a try to see if my old hard disk was recoverable. My upgrade edition Windows 7 worked perfectly, because I had a complete disk clone (luckily) on my usb hard drive. Keeping my fresh install, because as per usual, had cluttered my hard drive up with unnecessaries.
Thanks to everybody who gave me advice, as worth a try. :T0 -
Update: Only problem I have encountered (for me) is the audio. Perhaps its to do with having a larger pin power button connector than what I had (approx 17 pin, to my 9 pin, off the top of my head).
I connected anyway, where I thought it would fit, and according to the manual it cover everything, except more power, and the audio. So perhaps there is an adapter? Food fro thought, as I love playing audio off my pc.
Any recommendations?0 -

I'll retest my speakers/connections. They were working previously. The light comes on.0 -

Looking for a good free utility that has the capability to read non-functioning hard disks.0
