does anyone know what the position is with private landlords and replacement aerials for the digital switch over??
i read some time ago in a daily newspaper that a lot of private landlords were falling short with replacing the aerials for their tenants; the switch over here is march next year so a while yet, but is it the landlords responsibility to do this?? the existing aerial was here when i moved in so i suppose that technically, it is his responsiblity. i certainly cant afford to replace it.
but i have a freeview box, so do i actually need a new aerial. confused......

If your Freeview box works at present, I don't see any need for the landlord to replace the aerial.0

You're very unlikely to need a new aerial - and if you currently receive digital TV via the existing aerial and freeview box now, nothing's going to happen once the analogue signal is switched off in your area.0

thats brilliant,. thanks to all for the sensible information. i'll stop worrying.0

Yeah if you have no problems now, then it's 99% certain you won't have issues at switchover. I used to work for the switchover help scheme, and the amount of calls we got as to whether or not the Ariel needed changing we got were most of the calls tbh. Just be careful of people who tell you that you need a digital ariel, as they don't exist, some companies are going round saying they install digital Ariel, when it's just a normal ariel.0

Fantastic, brilliant, such expertise, such experience... : And can't even spell "aerial"... Sigh!!!0 -
Hi,
You definately dont need any new ariel, You will need a freeview box after switchover, or a new TV if YOU choose to update. Our switchover was last year and it was easy.
Take no notice at all of the scammers saying you need a new one.0 -

whoops! thats where I was going wrong!
Mustnt confuse my aeriels with my aerials again0 -
Can someone explain to me why my brand new TV with integral Freeview and my two year old Panasonic HDTV with integral Freeview will only pick up around half the available channels via the current aerials?
Some years ago at another property, I had a new aerial fitted which was described as a "Band E" aerial and I needed it to pick up all the "On Digital" channels. Is it likely I need to do the same here?
