Friend of mine went to Uganda for a month, and everywhere he went he got called 'Mzungu' which refers to white foreigners. Couldn't work out whether it was racist or not “I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0

My belief is that it depends on context.
In Aus, for example, P@ki isn't a racist term any more than Aussie or Kiwi are. It's just short for Pakistani. In the UK it is racist because it has abusive connotations. There are plenty of nasty things Australians call people from the Indian sub continent but that isn't one of them.0 -

I just had a look and it apparently means 'one who wanders aimlessly', you can see where they are coming from, 'Doctor Livingstone I pressume'? Was he the boss? because it also means.
Mzungu can also be used to describe an employer or the person who pays, regardless of gender or colour.
BTW they see us as Reddies or Pinkies, not Whities, then again that could be the sun burn

Actually it's a sideswipe at the rather ludicrous defences offered up by Suarez and his apologists ('some of my best friends are black', 'it was only a joke', 'he never said it despite admitting it' etc.). I should have made that clearer. Crivens, I wouldn't want to be tarred with that brush.
.
Apologies Gen, you always seem a decent chap for a Libertarian

Thanks, I think.
TBH I've never understood people that claim to be libertarian but then want to stop gay people from marrying or claim the freedom to be horrid to people because they have a particular skin tone.
The whole point is that you trust people to get on with things as long as they aren't hurting someone else by doing so. The second part of that sentence is the important bit for me. That probably puts me on the hard left of Libertarians.0 -
Looks like Kenny, and the higher Liverpool management have had a b0llocking off the Yanks :eek:Liverpool Managing Director Ian Ayre has today released the following statement.
"We are extremely disappointed Luis Suarez did not shake hands with Patrice Evra before yesterday's game. The player had told us beforehand that he would, but then chose not to do so.
"He was wrong to mislead us and wrong not to offer his hand to Patrice Evra. He has not only let himself down, but also Kenny Dalglish, his teammates and the Club. It has been made absolutely clear to Luis Suarez that his behaviour was not acceptable.
"Luis Suarez has now apologised for his actions which was the right thing to do. However, all of us have a duty to behave in a responsible manner and we hope that he now understands what is expected of anyone representing Liverpool Football Club."
Dalgish added: "Ian Ayre has made the club's position absolutely clear and it is right that Luis Suarez has now apologised for what happened at Old Trafford.
"To be honest, I was shocked to hear that the player had not shaken hands having been told earlier in the week that he would do."

I think this NY times article was the straw that broke the camels back.It is time for John Henry and Tom Werner, leaders of the Fenway Group that controls Liverpool, to state clearly the direction the team will take on this issue.

It's the big positive, for me, of US corporates in any field: they simply won't tolerate racism. Australian, French, German, Japanese, English and Swiss all will IME to a greater or lesser extent tolerate racism (among Aussies and Japanese it seems positively encouraged).0
