sister has had an big gas bill in!

Your sister is on British Gas Standard tariff which is the most expensive available. As Wig said above you can save £60 by going to Ebico and there are possibly slightly cheaper tariffs.
She should also be aware that unless she cuts her consumption the next bill in March is likely to be even higher, Sept to Dec was particularly mild last year.
Get her to check her meter and work on a figure of 36 pence per unit on her meter as the cost. It will give her some idea of costs.0 -
gas is just used for central heating and cooking as far as i know, well she doesnt have a fire so she doesnt use one of them, i will have to ask her all the above questions.

Even though they took a reading they might still have estimated it (that happens to me every time they take a reading) so i would still check. If it is accurate she should ring her gas supplier and tell them she will have difficulty paying the amount.
