Soolin, did you take maths at school? 2x 99p = £1.98 afaik. Therefore that's what his postage cost is, although if you're feeling generous you could knock the cost of the 2nd packaging cost off as a goodwill gesture. Other than that, show the buyer where the door is.

Sorry I'm obviously being thick, but I don't understand your point. If seller was charging 99p per magazine, which is actually very cheap..then I agree that in selling 2 he would be claiming £1.98 post and packing. However the OP says buyer only wants to pay 99p for the two, and my post suggested that for a standard magazine, I usually sell sci fi ones which are on a good glossy paper, there is no way he can send two for a combined price of 99p.

I think it is out of order for a buyer to expect a discount unless they ask before hand or unless the seller has ticked the 'available for discount' box, which is often ticked by default. However, if these are paypal payments then there is a saving to be made in taking 1 payment rather than 2 (check it out and see) so I was suggesting that if seller was feeling generous he might want to return that saving as a discount.

Incedentally, some of the sci fi mags I sell creep into the £1.09 second class band as a large letter, which was my concern about the 99p per mag post and packing in the first place.

I would politly email him back saying you didnt offer to combine postage rates in the listings and that you are unable to reduce postage as this would cause you to be out of pocket, due to the weight of postage and cost of material to post item i.e envolope.
  • as Gazman says - also point out that you were already taking a hit on the p&p so it was kindof discounted already.

I would package both items seperate, get them weighed seperate, and charge him seperate.

Just take it as 2 seperate buyers if they get funny about postage. I had this earlier.

Buyer emailed me telling me that my £8 postage should be £4 (2x £4 postage), i offer a return on the excess postage to the buyer if i charge too much. In the future you could offer this... but dont forget to take away the postage of returning the cheque... :)

Most people say keep the 40p etc..

    email him saying

“I charge p&p at a low rate compared to other ebay sellers. The hardback envelopes that I use are not cheap and sometimes I make a loss on the total cost of postage and packaging. The cost of sending the two items together is more than the £1.98 I am charging you so I do not feel that a discount is appropriate.”

If he still objects he is a pratt.

Are we talking cheap magazines or very expensive magazines. If he has paid a lot of money and you are making a good profit, you can probably afford to be more generous, especially as he might be a repeat customer, and offer him a small discount.

Just bundle them both together in same envelope and post it. And charge 2 p&p

A lot of ebayers dont offer combined postage, yet will combine the items to be posted.

That would be a seriously bad idea if the cost of posting the two items together is a lot cheaper than two single packages.

How P'd off would you be if you asked for a postage discount, and the seller refused, but then saved themselves money by combining the package? I'd be pretty narked!
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
