you can if it is a 3g phone, not if it is a 2g phone
  • The way i understand it is that 3 sim cards are differenet to other networks sim cards therfore can not be used in any non three phone. Hope this helps.

was it a '3' sim card or a 3g sim card from another provider?

The card in a 3G phone (not just "3") is different to a 2G SIM. It has additional functionality. It's actually a USIM rather than just a SIM. It should in theory work in any 3G (UMTS) phone. The giveaway is usually whether the phone supports video calls.

A 2G SIM will work in a 3G device but a USIM will not work in a 2G device.

    I hope that helps

consider the 3G SIM card as a DVD disc, 2G SIM card as a VCD disc.
3G enabled phones (DVD player) can accept 2G SIM cards (DVD player plays VCD as well), but not vice versa.
what we called a backward compatibility.

I tried to use a '3' 3g sim in an old Nec e606 '3' mobile which takes USIM sim's? so why won't it accept it?
