That's funny, since the aquisition of Powergen by E.On they seem to have slashed their energy watch complaints by hundreds per month, currently second in the table and probably soon to be first as well as investing huge amounts in bringing back all the out sourced work in India.

For whatever reasons you don't seem happy with them, but your opinion of a company that supply 6 million people, most of them very happy with the service, seems slightly.... narrow minded.

    Do you work for them?
I can only speak as I find from bitter experience of poor customer service etc.

I was with Pgen for nearly 20 years but in the last three since going onto "online tariff" they have failed to produce a correct bill at the correct time and seem incapable of telling the truth when contacting them.

  • I've been with Powergen for a couple of years now and we've had our ups and downs but on the whole they've been ok. I previously had an account with British Gas and it was a complete nightmare - never again! The only thing you must watch is the Direct Debits - mine are monthly - as I've just discovered that I've paid £500 over the top over the past six months!! However within 10 minutes of emailing to complaining online about this, I rcvd a phone call asking how I'd like my money returned to me! I've never had such a quick response from a company in my life (unless it was to chase ME for money!) Good luck with yr decision.

I used Powergen about two years ago, transfer to them went smoothly, never had a problem with the bills, accounts closed properly when I moved. I even got free lightbulbs. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones.

How about the price? Those 6 million people might want to think about this:

    Powergen gas price
    Standard tariff direct debit
3.737p for the first 1143 kWh per quarter, 2.972p thereafter
    Age concern D/D
3.625p for the first 1143 kWh per quarter, and 3.070p thereafter With £10 cash back! (big whoop!)
Standard tariff quarterly bill or D/D
3.737p for the first 1143 kWh per quarter, and 2.972p thereafter
    Age concern Quarterly
3.625p for the first 1143 kWh per quarter, and 3.070p thereafter With £10 cashback! Whoop!

    Ebico gas:
monthly direct debit, Quarterly bill or direct debit or prepayment meter All methods
2.55p per kwh - flat rate! Beats Powergen hands down.

Meaning what exactly? I get gas through my pipe, what do you get?

Ebico is a secondary seller which means they use the services of your local electricity company. All customer service is therefore exactly the same as your local elctricity supplier, e.g. Wales = SWALEC. Your contract is actually with the local supplier and not Ebico.

No problems here, they stopped my direct debits for 3 months when I asked them to - no quibble & they started them again on the date I asked for them to begin again.
They send me my bills on time, they read the meter regularly, I can submit my own readings easily on a freephone number. What more can I ask for?

You can bury your head in the sand if you want to.

We were with PowerGen up until a few years back when they were the cheapest for us, been with them at previous addresses when they were also the cheapest back then. When we were first with them they had excellent - one of the best customer service, sometime back they switched to overseas call centres and they were dreadful, they have since moved back to UK call centres and I'ce heard customer services is improving.

We switched to SWEB (EDF) and are happy with them, again UK call centres and when we have spoken to them we have had no problems. SWEB are still the cheapest for us, but if we were to switch to them as a new customer they wouldn't be, the tariff we are on is 'old customers only! :)' and is quite a big jump to the cheapest available for a new sign up / transfer.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
