Does Anyone Claim DLA For Hypermobility

I have HM (but also arthritis). I chatted to a physio who explained HM is seen as a condition not an illness. If you get a chance would say do ask to see someone as they can explain so much more about HM and help you manage it.0

Thanks

They may write to your GP or send their own doctor out or make their decision on what they have infront of them. Try not to worry, give it a full twelve weeks and then contact them.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0 -

I would definitely not do this. While it's unlikely, it's possible a letter gets lost in the post.
If this happens, and you leave it over a month, your ability to challenge the decision goes way down.
Phone every 3 weeks at least.
Sure - this is extra workload on them.
On the other hand - it wouldn't happen if they'd make decisions in a timely manner.
A quick look says Royal Mail claim to misdeliver in some way one in every two hundred and fifty items of post.
There are around 200 million letters sent a year by the DWP, averaging 20 grams each (guess), so a total of around 16 tons a year goes missing.0 -
Speak to the Consultant's secretary, she can tell you whether the Consultant/anyone has completed the report. In my experience the reports in fact get passed down to a Senior Registrar-they tend to deal with a lot of the admin for the Consultant and the DWP will accept that as the Registrar uses your notes to complete the report (I know this from working closely with a Consultant as a nurse specialist.) Not everyone sees the Consultant anyway-most people see one of the team.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0

Have you informed your Gp and Consultant that you are applying for DLA?
It may be too late in the process, but in advance of a renewal, I always write to both the Gp and Consultant advising them in advance.
I use this opportunity to advise both parties of all the current problems and difficulties, and the care / mobility needs arising from this.
The doctors / consultant reports are based on the medical facts, but DLA is based on the care or mobility needs arising from this. Often on a short appointment, you discuss the main current problems, but maybe not really saying how it affects us.
My daughters consultant found it eye opening when I actually put everything down on paper, and it really put her in the picture to the full extent of what was happening.

Hi, its now been 13-14 weeks not sure which, but i rang them up yesterday and they said they are still waiting for a report from my consultant, they have been in contact and she was on leave for 4 weeks thats why its taken so long, so now they have to wait for her to get back to them, but the thing is, i havnt seen this consultant in over a year, i thought they would of requested a report from my most recent visit to the bone specialist, unless they already got a report from them already so it looks like ill be waiting a lot longer now. Does anyone know roughly how long it will take for her to get in touch with the report, its taking forever
Thank you

Well in answer to your last question nobody here could surely know... it'll take as long as it takes her sadly (and only she or her staff can advise on that)... the fact the DWP has waited so long suggests that they feel it is necessary to get information from them in order to make their claim that they have 'sufficient and suitable evidence to make their decision on entitlement'. However you could pull a stunt here... you know they've requested her to send details...to fill in the dodgy form... perhaps in light of fact you haven't seen them for a year you could create and send a nice little document giving them an update of the care/mobility problems in relation to your DLA claim... and hopefully that might influence them to fill in the form with some helpful information when they finally do. It's a thought... highlight you've applied for DLA and that when they fill in the form you hope they consider what care/mob needs you are claiming to have."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0
