Moving a broadband connection upstairs

Moving the computer which has broadband downstairs up to a new study upstairs the only problem in new room doesnt have a phone socket to plug the broadband into.

The Computer is in a room (easiest to describe as a square block house seperated into 4 blocks its in the top right block on the bottom floor and needed to be moved in the bottom left on the top floor sorry if i have confused people)

There is an additional socket for the house phone at the bottom of the stairs

What is the easiest way to get around this problem of connecting to computer to broadband upstairs? will it be easier to call the provider and get them to install one?

Two ways to go, get yourself a wireless router and dongle for the PC.
By a wired extension kit and run it upstairs, BT will do this for you but at a price.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Hey n57602000,

If you're on a service that advertises as 'speeds up to 8Mb', my best advice is to keep your connection running off of your master socket - don't use phone extensions (or phone extension cables).

If your master socket is downstairs, invest in a wireless router and get a dongle for your PC.

Setting up wireless is really easy!

    Good luck!

    Kind regards,

This is what i did when i moved my computer upstairs before christmas, works just as well as it did when it was wired. Bought my dongle from e bay but bought the router new.

And if i can do it then anyone can.
