Most stores give a one year guarantee which is better than SOGA so I doubt very much that Asda would go down that route.

To be offered a refund is very good customer service and I would bite their hand off. If you then buy another one you have a years guarantee again.

Yeah, I know. Was just pointing out that they are not legally obliged to offer any extra guarantee outside of SOGA, and that the OP should be grateful for their offer. :)

Asda offer a 1 year guarantee on all electrical products. Microsoft also offer a 1 year warranty on all Xbox products. So you can pick and choose, really. You can send it off to Microsoft (you just need to supply the box) and they'll repair or replace it for your son. Or take it back to Asda, and you'll get a full refund.

I'm not sure how you expect Asda to replace a product they don't carry any more.

they didnt have to offer you a refund - that's very generous of them.
If they don't have any of that particular model in stock anymore they physically can't replace it all the options they offered sound reasonable - I take it you phoned the store to check what they had in stock before you made the trip to asda with the xbox?
don't forget that if you do get a refund you will lose all of the saved data on the harddrive unless you transfer it over to either another xbox or a memory stick beforehand.

As others have said, snap their hand off if they are offering a full refund and go buy another one. You could send the current one back to microsh!te but they will just repair it and send it back out, if it can't be repaired you'll get a refurb. If you take the refund and buy another you'll have another 1 year warranty straight away!!

Oh, forgot to add - you can return Asda purchases to any other Asda. So if you've got one of the massive ones near you, then phone and ask them if they have your model in stock, and you can do a straight swap.
  • Words fail me sometimes, you've been offered a full refund and you're still moaning??!!
Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.

Got a huge Buzz out of it.

Well, I think you should take the refund and spend the money on something OTHER than an Xbox.

Seriously - have you seen the failure rate of these things - same with the PS3's !!!!

Yeah you could buy a Wii with its outdated graphics and games............

Stick with the Xbox the new one doesn't suffer RROD anywhere near as much as the previous one, which microsoft actually held their hands up and extended the warranty straight away. Where as Sony stood there and blamed the users rather than their shoddy system!!

I thought it was good that microsoft extended the warranty as the failure rate was shocking. the new ones can't get RROD but we used to get loads returned with faulty disc trays. I've got the wii, ps3 and 360 and I'm always on the xbox - I'd reccomend OP to back up their game saves and just get a replacement console.
