hi i am a single mum with 2.5yr old dd. her father and i split up while i was pregnant and i have been single ever since. over xmas i went out with some friends and ended up sleeping with a guy i used to go to school with. i am now really worried that i might be pregnant as we were stupid (and drunk) and didnt use anything. my period had just finished a day or two before. does anyone know if this means i would have been more likely to get pregnant? and when the soonest time i can do a test is?

From memory your clock starts ticking from the first day of your last period and you are most fertile between day 11 and 14. Don't think you can reliably do a test until your period is due though.
And I hate to sound condescending but remember that for next time if you haven't already! Or alternatively chant that regardless of how drunk you are, if he hasn't got the respect for you or himself to put a condom on then there is no point in sleeping with him. At the very least you wouldn't want to have a relationship with someone that does that
I would also suggest a full once over when you know the answer to the pregnancy question.0 -
To be on the safe side wait till at least the day your period is due. As SportsBeth said the time you are most likely to conceive is around day 14, so 14 days after conception there *should* in most cases be enough hormones present (if you are pregnant) to trigger a pregnancy test.
So in short, you could do ne 14 days or more after having sex BUT if that comes back negative, I'd check again when your period is due0 -
and for future reference if you should find yourself in a similar position pop to the chemist as soon as you can (or the GP) and get the morning after pill. It's free if prescribed or about £10 over the counter but can give you peace of mind. It can be taken up to 72 hours after intercourse but is most effective if taken as soon as possible.
A pregnancy test is only any use from around the time your period is due so don't waste your money (they're expensive!) doing one too soon - first response can be used I think 2 days before you're due and the others not until you're due.
I'd also suggest at some point in the next couple of months popping along to the clinic and getting a once over for STIs. Undiagnosed they can leave you infertile.
edited to add - as you'd only just finished your period as the others have said you're unlikely to be pregnant so try to relax about it0 -
OK- not in a high risk time - so pregnancy wise you should be OK, unless of course you have an ultras-short cycle. What I would be more concerned about is Sexually transmitted infections (including HIV). Hope it all works out well for you, but please go along to your local STI clinic to get checked out.0

It's unlikely you'll get pregnant that early in your cycle, butnot impossible. if it's too late for the morning after pill (up to 72 hours) I believe you can get a coil fitted up to 5 days (from memory) after unprotected sex. Try calling your local family planning clinic or NHS direct.0

You can get pregnancy tests that work about several days earlier than normal ones (about 4 days I think) - go to a chemists and see what they've got cos sometimes the non-branded ones are way cheaper than branded ones anyway. You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs :rotfl:0

just to add the morning after pill can be given free by come chemists but if you have to buy it it can cost upto £250

I rememebr reading a test many moons ago and it said to wait at least 19 days after sex to do the test, dont feel bad for being caught out, alot of us have been there, done it, bought the t-shirt, it is very unlikely so try not to worry until your next period, but i know how hard that is!
I'm on the pill but still worry sick every month that i could be pregnant!:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -

.
I use a persona as i cannot take the pill. I used to ovulate around day 6 but these days its always on day 10.
I think the day after your period finished is a little early for ovulation but it rare cases it does occur, the chances are everything is OK. Call into your local chemist and ask their advice as they will know the earliest you can do a test and good luck, these things happen0 -
