Is there a quicker way of encoding it?
.avi is not DVD format so yes yoru nero is having to encode it before burning it. in this case one-two hours is a very good time already. some programs may be able to do it slightly faster but imo i would stick with nero as it will give better reliability and quality.
the only option you have to quicken the nero burning is to download the actual dvd image which will burn in anywhere from 8-30 mins depending on the speed of your dvd rewriter. also the advantage is that the picture quality will be perfect as there is qulaity lost during encoding. the disadvantage is that it will take you an extra couple of hours to download. so either way your taking hours.0
