Old Water Bill

Options
Hi,

Can anyone please help me?

I understand that with Gas and Electricity if you receive a bill over 18 months old you don't have to pay????

What happens with a water bill that I have received dating back to 2007. Do I legally have to pay this or just back date it for 18 months?

Thank you in advance for your help

Anyone can go back 6 years including the gas/electric companies if they so desire. In most case they won't go too far back if it's the company's fault. If it's your fault by not providing meter readings and not allowing access and other simiar reasons then they'll go all the way back for the whole 6 years.

So the question I have is why did you not get a bill for 4 years? Did you notify them you had moved in? They aren't mind readers.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

    Welcome to the forum.

You are probably confused with the provision that if a gas and electricity company don't bill you - and it is their fault - they have a code(not a law) that they will only back-bill for 12 months. Once a valid bill is raised however they can pursue you for the money for ever.

There is no such back-billing provision for water bills. They have up to six years(five in Scotland) to raise a valid bill and they again can chase you for the rest of your life.
