Prices in Greece

How has the debt crisis affecting things over there if at all? Are tourists getting screwed over? What are the current average prices of staples?

Lots of questions like that on the Tripadvisor forums for the specific locations. I know I have found Skiathos and Crete pricey in the past, but last year Thassos was very cheap.

Suggest you have a look on the tripadvisor forums for recent questions on prices for the staples inc beer!
Aim to win in 2013 - a holiday somewhere nice, New York break, treats for family & friends & some cash would be lovely!!!

Hmmm, got any links for that? I couldn't find a single thread on the first five pages. I'll be in Thessaloniki and Samothrace.

Friend of mine got back from Rhodes a few weeks ago and said it was expensive - no surprise really - their whole problem is they've got a strong currency and there's nothing they can do about it. Had they still has Drachmas they'd have devalued, attracted loads of tourists who'd spend more as it'd be cheaper for them, boosted their exports, devalued their debt etc and wouldn't have had the crisis they have. It's all down to the Euro...luckily we weren't daft enough to join the club...

I've generally found living costs over the last few years around the same as over here (I'm "oop t'norf", dunno what "darn sarf" prices are like these days...). My last visit was June, so would doubt there's been a massive increase since. It's often more expensive as you tend to go out more (or insist on buying english-branded stuff).

I think it depends which island/areas you visit.

We too thought Rhodes was expensive, but more cosmopolitan than other islands so maybe that's why.

Crete this year (near Chania) was fairly reasonable - but Greece is never again going to be the cheap destination as it once was, and it hasn't been for a number of years.

I second shudd1967 - check our the Tripadvisor forums.
If you can't find a thread about prices, start one yourself - but do it in the specific sub-board.
