Travelex Cash Password Currency Card (NOT Global)

I'm planning to use one of these as a secure cheap way of being able to draw Euro from ATM's in Spain. It seems this is the right card to use rather than the Global one as there are no charges (by Travelex) for using ATM's to draw out Euros.

However searching this forum a lot people are suggesting the Global card is the one to go for however for many of these posts the people want to use that for point of sale or multiple currencies etc.

Has anyone got any experience of using this card so I know what to expect?

Thanks in advance Jon

Edit ( i don't have time to go for the other cards recommended by Martin as i go in a few days)

The Globe card is cheaper. The card you mention charges more, but the charges are hidden in the exchange rate. Get the Globe via Top Cashback. Topcashback > Travelex > Globe.
  • Thanks for the reply.
Done the math and indeed you are correct as long as the exchange rate stays the same. So depending which way the rate goes it could cost me more or less. Currently if the rate stayed the same it would cost me 13 euros more to go for the standard cash passport.

So as I have only a specific amount of sterling to use for the holiday and don't want be worrying about exactly how much i've got left on it (and as i'll only be using ATM's I can empty the card completely and not have a few Euro's left on it (I've put a round number of Euro's on it)) i think i'll still go for the standard cash passport.

So with that in mind has anyone had issues using this type of card in Spain?

Why not just take the cash? Given that you are prepared to pay over the odds for certainty then it will remove any uncertainty over whether the ATM will take your card or not and whether it will charge you a fee.
  • I don't want to carry that much cash around with me as the (Extremely cheap) room i have got booked has no safe and you get some protection should your card get stolen - plus a second card.

A credit card is easier to keep on my person outside of my wallet in case of pick pockets, mugging etc.
