Has anyone phoned up a company on a contract informing them that you can't afford the current price and wish to lower it, Im wanting to do this with my Mobile Phone company but im a little lost on what to say or expect.

I can 'just afford it' but I feel about £2/3 on food a day is a bit low, i'm very tempted to make the phone call but am completely lost as how to approach it.

I have heard stories about people asking to reduce there bill this month to add it on top of next months bill.

Usually they don't care. Your circumstances is not their problem. However, you can appeal to their goodwill and generosity.
If they don't agree to cut the monthly cost, they can offer you some repayment plan to pay the money your owe over a longer term.

Also, I guess that 24x£30 contract came with not a basic handset. Sell it an use the money to pay for the contract. Buy a basic replacement phone for a few pounds. I think you can survive without mobile internet.

You could easily switch down to a £5/month deal on Giffgaff. That's £300 a year saved.

There are get out tricks for some contracts and anyway, selling the phone to buy it out has already been mentioned.

Are there any tricks that really work? Share them as this is exactly what the OP needs.

It came with a phone that I imagine will last me for life. Something I do not wish to depart with but if push comes to shove I might have to.
