I'm trying to plan ahed for winter and wondered whether anyone thought it would be cheaper to fill tank now - of course global prices are biggest driver of cost but wondered whether demand at the moment might have an impact?
any advice/ experiences welcome!

Generally cheaper in the summer. At the very least you should get a fill before the bad weather comes if the last 2 winters are anything to go by.0

Unfortunately not necessarily.
As discussed in a previous thread, the tendency over the last few years has been higher prices in the summer.
Again, as before, heating oil is from the same pool as diesel and jet (both high summer demand), and many, many things affect the price, not just seasonality.
A good example is right now. Stock markets and currencies are coming off hard, and global bullish sentiment is fading fast. Oil can only follow, whatever it's fundamentals.
After a long period of strength (above $110 all spring/summer), this week and next could well be a good time to buy a top up.0 -
You have misunderstood. The last 2 winters nobody could get deliveries. People were paying a premium because companies who had the gas / kerosene and could deliver could charge what they wanted, some weren't even taking deliveries for a couple of weeks because they had such a huge backlog of orders to get through. OP already knows about global prices being the main driving factor.0

Not sure that I did misunderstand. OP was asking about the cheapest time to fill his tank.
It is a fallacy to assume that the summer is always cheaper, as experience has shown that it is not.
Clearly, there will always be price spikes, and alot of last winter's spikes were caused as much by transport (snow) problems as a shortage of actual oil.
It makes sense to never get yourself in the position where you only have a few days/weeks supply, as you may have no choice but to pay up. Going into December say, close to empty, is asking for trouble.
Some of my cheapest fill ups have been in the winter. (Nov to Mar).0
