October or November is when I plant mine, and harvest towards the end of July.0

thanks for the advice Sally A! mine are still drying out on the top shelf of the greenhouse. i'm gonna save most of them and think i shall invest in some other varieties that are good for storage and flavour. do you grow any other varieties other than 'Music'?0

No, I've never tried any other variety, as most places sell them in small packs for much dearer.
I think 2kg cost me £26 last year and gave me around 180 plants, it's a variety that seems to do well on my clay soil, and if I did buy lots of different varieties I'd probably get them mixed up anyhow, especially as the birds will often pull them up before the roots get a hold.
I do find for storage that some of the bulbs do deteriorate after a while, they seem to dry out, this tends to happen at the end of the year, so I might blitz some of the bulbs with olive oil and keep in the freezer in tubs.
Mine are still mainly hanging up in the greenhouse, these will get transferred to the shed, and then I just keep half a dozen on the go in the kitchen.0
