There were very tall people, of course - King Edward I was also known as "Longshanks", and was probably about 6ft 3. The Victorians dug his skeleton up and measured it, IIRC.

Is it his body that is in a bank vault (HSBC?) while a court case is settled as to who it belongs to. I'm pretty sure it's an Edward but Google doesn't show anything up.

that's a new one on me - I've not heard that before. I've got a great book somewhere called, "Kings, Queens, Bones and !!!!!!!s" which says where all the royals are buried, so I'll try to dig it out.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
