HELP NEEDED URGENT: Orange Outrage on data roaming

Just to correct you, it's £3 per day for the days you use it.
Thanks, you are correct and I had chance to amend my letter before printing.
My point being two-fold of course:
1. Either their records are inaccurate, or the application they are de facto recommending isn't fit for purpose.
2. The charges are profiteering, I assume they make a profit on the £3 daily charge for 30Mb worth of data, so why charge £3 per Mb - because they can! Hopefully they can't if enough people highlight this to Offcom (or whatever they are called now)!:A0 -
whenever i go abroad the first thing i do is buy a local sim card and leave my uk sim out until i am firmly back in the uk where i pick up any voicemails etc, it is simply not worth the risk using your phone on and off in any country outside of the eu with your uk sim inside.
i have sympathy for the OP as he has got stung with a very large phone bill but he has learnt a lesson and i do not think he will be repeating that mistake anytime soon.
local wifi hotspots and a local sim card are best, i have even gone as far as to put my phone in flight mode with wifi on to really make sure nothing weird can happen.
Probably no good to me as I doubt the SIM would fit into my phone, iPhone 4 have different sized SIMs, madness.
Good advice for those who can take it though.:A0 -
You are forgetting that the usage and charges are generated on the roaming network-not on Orange. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I got an iPhone 4s so know how it is and I have even taken a pair of scissors on holiday with me for the sole purpose of cutting a sim card down to fit.
scissors where in the main luggage not hand luggage btw0 -
Am glad i read this,as I am new to smartphones and pay monthly,I have data roaming turned off on my phone and check my data usage every day on the o2 web site to make sure im not using too much up,think i,m being too over cautious as Im almost scared to use the internet till i see what data usage I incur, think i have used 46mb in a week since getting 500mb allowance, must read more posts to get too grips with the whole thing0

If it's the app that shows the status of your Orange bundles, then there is a big time delay if you are abroad and Orange do warn about this.0 -

This is irrelevant and in any case doesn't explain how they can afford to offer 30Mb a day for £3 but then charge £3 PER MB to the unwary/ill-advised.
I was lucky, only got fleeced to the tune of £100 and they've offered a 50% refund so it's not the end of the World but people need to complain about this kind of thing to show their dissatisfaction.:A0 -
What app is it? If it's some app that counts data, all them warn that they cannot do this perfectly.

It's the App that Orange mention in their text once you sign up to their £3 a day data bundle deal.
There's inaccurate and then there's inaccurate - one of the days in question Orange reckon I used double what the application suggests, a reasonable level of accuracy is to be expected - I don't consider this reasonable.
Actually Orange themselves don't know what they're doing as according to my bill they've charged me £90 odd (pre-VAT) for 70 odd Mb of data, maybe I should just shut up while I am ahead.

You didn't get 'fleeced', you paid the advertised rate that you accepted when you took out the contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I've tried the data counter apps and don't like them very much; they don't inspire me with confidence. When I'm roaming on Orange's £3/30MB/day bundle, I just reset my iPhone's built-in data counter at the beginning of the day, keeping an eye on it throughout the day, and then take a screenshot at the end of the day.
I find it quite hard to use as much as 30MB in one day, as that equates to 900MB per month, and I usually use 200-400MB per month in the UK. Maybe it's because I always use wireless networks whenever available, often just for a decent connection speed.0
