Really? I've never seen this before on any US hire car...only if your license isn't in English have I seen an international drivers license required.
Hertz's website doesn't seem to say an IDL is required?

Yes you only need international if your driving license is in non-english language.0

Rent with Hertz.
All Hertz rates in the USA booked through the UK website include ALL insurance with ZERO excess. You could return the car on fire through the front window of the rental office and still not have to pay an excess (Unless you did it deliberately!).0
