All you need to know about number of pics per card here (although I did mention it briefly above):

    http://www.fujifilm.co.uk/digital/cameras/f460/index.php?page=tech_specs&lpage=/digital/cameras/range.php

You want to take photos at the maximum quality to give you more options when it comes to editing them, although this will reduce the number of photos you can get on the card. Go for the 1Mb Amazon one, that's the best value, and you'll fit 400 on it at maximum quality.

For transferring files between your two computers you'll want a USB memory stick (assuming you have a USB port on both machines) like this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/ByteStor-Speed-Dataferry-Flash-Drive/dp/B000A0D8JU/sr=8-1/qid=1167945811/ref=pd_ka_1/026-2229720-2384458?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

or this one with twice the capacity:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-Technology-2GB-Flash-Drive/dp/B000ERAON2/sr=8-15/qid=1167945811/ref=pd_ka_15/026-2229720-2384458?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

Buy the memory card and the USB stick from Amazon and you'll qualify for free delivery!

thanks for all your help charlie. i have ordered as you suggested the 1GB card for camera and the smaller stick for computer. would you believe after all that asking for help when i went on the amazon website to put through order it had already had a memory card ready recommended as i had bought the camera through them. they rec the 512mb one but have took on board your comments on the quality aspect. still bit thick though as still cant work out how many pics i get from the 1GB card had no idea they offered this service? learn a little every day. think the smaller stick will be ok though as i only use comp for mse shopping knitting websites etc so am sure memory will be large enough for my comp needs. thanks again for taking the time out to help me

I hope I haven't confused you, but the size of the card doesn't make any difference to the picture quality. The bigger the card the more photos you can fit on it.
You want to take your photos at the highest quality setting on your camera, so that if you want to crop your photos or enlarge them you will maintain the image quality. You should get 400 photos on that card at the highest picture quality setting.
Hope you have fun with your camera. Any problems, you know where to come!

have a look at getting a USB Xd card reader so you can pop the camera card in any pc with a free usb slot - from Amazon, so you get get over 15 quid for the free postage:money: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_nr_seeall_1/026-8056178-5395604?ie=UTF8&keywords=Xd%20card%20reader&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3AXd%20card%20reader%2Ci%3Aelectronics

as the price differrnce is £4 for an extra 512MB get the larger card - it will allow you to take pictures at a greater resolution ( ie larger files ) so you can "blow" them up if you want to print at A4 etc. You never know when yoy may want to shot a movie - if your camera can or take that extra picture ..

Cheap memory is crap, it is usually very slow and this is really annoying as you wait for ages for a picture to save before taking another. Cheap memory is also unreliable and you never know when it will self destruct and you lose your photos.

Shop around for GENUINE Fuji cards from a reputable (not ebay) supplier, Olympus also use Xd and branded Olympus memory is also good.

no, am just debating what to do now for best. could get card from amazon for £3 more which then qualifies or was looking at adding a £4.99 reader onto other order but think that increases delivery as then using 2 companies
