Orange home broadband

I have come to the end of an 18mth contract with orange home broadband.
I am going to Uni and no longer need the net as its included in my rent.
I thought if i can keep paying til the end of my contract that would be ok.
But now they want a £30 disconnection fee!
I have never heard of such a thing and they're refusing to waive it.
Is there anything I can do - I can't afford to pay it.

The fee is imposed by Openreach for removing the connection at the exchange. Orange are passing the fee on to you.
Sadly, you will find this buried in the terms and conditions somewhere and (based on that assumption) are liable to pay it.0 -
Yes thats how they explained it. Im gutted - I wanted to but a book for uni with that money

For a company like Orange it is peanuts, to me its a lot of money0 -
All ISP's levy a cease charge, and have done for about 3 years now. If your migrate your service using a MAC it does not apply-not much help to you though. No free lunch, and no free laptop

if i get a code does that allow me to go elsewehre and avoid the fee?
So if i ask 4 the code but dont use it would I not be charged?0 -
Using a MAC avoids a cease charge.
If you don't use the MAC, a cease charge still applies, it expires after 30 days. Just obtaining it does not change anything-it's simply an option to cancel. No free lunch, and no free laptop
