Dirt cheap netbook required! help please!

Good evening folks,

I currently have a Dell Inspiron core i-3 laptop, which is fine. However, the low battery life and lack of portability is a nuisance.

Hence, I am looking in to getting a netbook - preferably as cheap as possible (for surfing, e-mails, simple documents, matched betting etc).

Any suggestions?

Also, how do I find the cheapest netbooks on Amazon.co.uk (have £45 in vouchers from Harris poll and Valued opinions!)?

Can't go too wrong with the MSI Wind for basic, reliable performance for the things you mention. They're generally highly regarded and build quality is good - we have three! Check out Argos Outlet on Ebay - they sell 'refurb' models for around £128. We've bought a few and they've been fine - mostly damaged packaging.

thanks for the recommendation. Since i'ved got £45 vouchers for Amazon.co.uk, i can't find such a good price on Amazon.co.uk - is there a way of finding similar deals to ebay on there?

If you really want to use your vouchers, you can consider this Samsung N145 Plus for £193(£148)

Here is a useful thread for you: How to speed up Samsung NetBook. Consider purchasing the 2GB RAM DDR3 module to complete the process.

I have the Samsung N150 plus (£205) and it is a nice little machine for the money. I'm getting DDR2 2gb ram from Crucial for around £20.

    Have you tried a netbook?

I have a Samsung N150, and it's a good little machine, but they are a bit slow.

PC World/Currys are not normally cheap, but the last time I was in they had reasonable spec Acer netbooks for around £175.

OK if just surfing BUT if your windows is updating and another system is working too, you will get a little hang. (@ the mo I am surfing and windows is installing 73 updates with no problem - 84% mem and 60% cpu - running ccleaner pushes the cpu to 100%)

The processor, ram, op sys are all lower spec of a standard laptop.

BUT for portability, are not locked down like an ipad, cheaper than a Android 3.0 tablet, just don't run too many progs @ once and for the price they are a gem.

The extra RAM can really make a difference. I was uninterested in using my old ACER Netbook running XP when it had only 512MB RAM.
Slotted in another 1GB RAM module and now I use it in preference to my laptop whilst travelling.
