Good afternoon folks,
my beloved 2 year old Sony Ericsson k800i is on its last legs as the keypad doesn't work
.
Therefore, I'm currently looking for a replacement PAYG handset that is just as good - i.e. can easily access Yahoo Mail and Facebook, use internet.
I wish to remain on PAYG - any suggestions for low-cost (or low as possible!!) suitable handsets please??

Nokia 6700 maybe but keypad is shockingly bad.
Earlier version nokia 6303.
Better if you could get a Nokia e63 / e72 type with qwerty keyboard.
Or just get a touchscreen - HTC wildfire S0 -
i want a mobile that is just as easy to use as the k800i for e-mails/internet/facebook.
how about any updated Sony Ericsson's, are they similar?
not comfortable with touchscreen, would preder keypad entry. thanks for suggestions OneADay.0 -
I had k810i and it was great till it lasted - hardly used it for internet but camera and texting wa much easier than other mobiles I have seen since. The Nokia N95 was good too.
SE Elm was meant to be similar to and a replacement for the k8** range. It failed.
The Xpera 10 might be something of interest to you.
But I think you are better off with HTC Wildfire S. Only problem battery life.
Nokia 6700 - but aweful because of its keyboard and small screen.0 -

Which is the best low-cost option? (i.e. is sub £50 possible for good internet capability without it being total rubbish?!!)
i just need yahoo email/facebook/internet features that are v.easy to use like the k800i... no fancy features needed at all!!0 -
We have a couple of similar vintage phones (one k800 and a k530) in the family and I think they are great. They are easy to make calls on in all light conditions. I like my Android phone but as a phone it is much less good than my Sony Ericsson.
Have you considered getting the cover replaced ?
I did this to a Nokia and all the keys and related stuff came as replacements in the package.0 -

Well, basically most of the keys on the keypad don't work (not sure why), so how much would it cost to get this fixed?? (and from where?!)0 -
Search ebay for new kaypad or full housing - very easy to replace - from £3.25 on ebay.
Might need an appropriate screw driver to undo the screws on the phone.
Personally (having had k810i), its better to move on and try something new. You won't get a decent phone for below £50. New 3G phones are faster for internet - so if you need facebook/twitter, they are better than old phone.
Orange San Fransisco you can get for around £80.0 -

is the San Francisco locked to Orange network?
Do i really need to spend £80? all i need is a phone that does yahoo mail and facebook/internet the same speed and usability as k800i...0 -
but much as I like my Orange San Francisco for lots of reasons I think the k800 is actually better if your prime purpose is making calls.
Go and see one of those slightly dodgy looking back street phone shops. The kind of place that does unlocking and see if they can change the keypad.
The San Francisco can be unlocked for free (see http://sanfranciscoandroid.co.uk/ ) and is super for e-mail, maps, mobile surfing, internet radio and millions of other applications but I also keep my Sony Ericsson "candybar" phone for actual phone calls.
Both are on PAYG and the extra cost of running two phones as against one is very small.0 -

The phone is locked to Orange however there are several threads on here stating how easily they can be unlocked.
Also if you use cashback sites Quidco are offering £12 cashback on Orange PAYG handsets which would help with the cost of the phone.:dance:Quidco Payments In 2011 - £724.21
June: £43.15/July: £51.22/August: £90.60/September: £29.75/October: £284.07/November: £171.08/December: £29.220
