A lot of these V slicers are just cheap copies of the original German make, the Borner V Slicer.

I bought mine from a German ebay seller which worked out at about £25, three or so years ago.

A lot of the cheaper versions crack or the blades blunt quickly.

  • Mine has two grating attachments too (fine and coarse) which this week have made yummy home-made coleslaw - cos I'm fussy and like all the ingredients about the same size which I can't get with hand slicing.

Hmm, I love mine, but my dd bought one this week and says that the spikes on the veg carrier aren't good enough to hold the veg in place. I think she might take it back to the shop. Feels it's dangerous.

I'm not sure if you could do it with the cheaper ones, not sure if the blades are strong enough, but I use mine to slice meat.

It is great for getting wafer thin ham if you need to stretch it out, just make sure you make sure the cooked meat has been in the fridge for a while, makes it a lot easier to slice.

I've used it to slice ham, corned beef, small joints of beef, gammon joints etc.

I bought my original Borner V Slicer in the 80's when they were a bright orange colour, it lasted me 12 years before the frame that holds the slicing blades cracked.

I bought that one from one of the promotion people doing a demo on Blackpool market, best £10 I ever spent!
