V Slicer... A Must have !!!

:) I have just made the most unbelievable home made crisps and have just got to share it with you all... :):)
Peeled one medium sized potato and wazzed it with my V Slicer ( you can get these on QVC) but i got mine from the car boot sale for 50p brand new in the box what a STEAL?? It does all sorts and it's really quick with no mess.
Heated deep fat fryer up and added the thinly sliced potatoes one at a time.
they go golden brown and float in a matter of seconds, drain with kitchen paper and add a little salt if you like.
and they were gorgeous at a fraction of the price.
WELL DONE ME !!!! :D

Now try the same method with sweet potatoes, parsnips, beetroot, celeriac .... very yummy and possibly a good way to get kids to each more veg, but you would have to offset the effect of deep frying :(

    Hi carl310166,
Just looked on ebay and they have some £9.79 with free postage aswell as the ones up for auction, or you could try charity shops or car boot sales. ;)

I bought one, or something similar, for my Mum years ago but it never lived up to expectations. Probably like Sarah1, boot fairs are the way to go.
    Howwwwwww Much???? ;)
  • I got one from a charity shop for £1, the box was really tatty but being the cheapskate I am looked inside and it was still shrinkwrapped! Charity shops are like ebay - keep looking and you'll find what you want in the end. I love mine but don't use it often enough to merit spending a lot, definitely worth a quid though.

I found something similar to the v-slicer in TKmaxx cost about 3-4 quid, used it regularly til I nearly sliced the top of my finger off. Still makes me wince thinking about that, and hardly used it since.

    DITTO!!!!

I withdrew my fingers sooooo quick that I spray painted my kitchen in red splatts!

These Mandolin slicers are great, but, I'd rather use my food processor (see, I'm a scaredy cat!) because there's less risk of me loosing my fingers. ;)

Enjoy yours loracan1, just watch out for your fingers!!!

my mum has one of those, but heres came with something that you can spike the vegetable on and slice with that - saves her fingers!! might be worth looking around for one, if you want to use it....
  • Available under a tenner these days, got mine this week from theoutletshop.tv

Only used it 2 times so far, but you do wonder how you lived without it
