Well, my annual water bill was due to be taken out yesterday (United Utilities).

Woke up yesterday, checked my account and noticed that £400 had been debited from account. Not a problem there.

Within hours, I then get credited £400 from United Utilities.

??

Nothing has been debited today.

Anyone else come across this?

You say annual so do you mean RV ? If so why is it coming out now ?
Either you have an yearly Rv bill and it should be half in April and half in October or it is an assessed / metered and that could be twice a year or quarterly depending on your company and billing cycle but it would not be a fix date rather an on demand DD

Something somewhere has gone wrong with your account by the sounds of it so I would give them a call and check

hi there; thanks for the reply.

my water bill is from 1 April 2011 to 31 March 2012. i pay annually.

it states that i don't need to do anything on my bill and that £400 will be debited from my account by DD on or after 1 August 2011.

    really confused???

    will contact them tomorrow!

    That is really odd then
    It should be :
    First half 01 04
    Second half 01 10

That should be your yearly bill divided in two..nothing more or less, there should never be anything outside of that unless you have a monthly payment plan as fortnightly or weekly can not be done through DD

I think they have set the payment up using the wrong code and it has not worked.

Did you pay anything in April ?

nope, didn't pay anything in april. i usually pay annually and just have one payment taken every year.

    it says on the bill:

    total charges this year: 1 april 2011 to 31 March 2012 - £400ish
amount due this year on your payment plan - £400ish

on the back it shows my DD plan with one payment of £400ish being taken out of my account on the 1 August 2011 (and another payment taken out for last year's annual bill).

    sounds right to me?

i'm just confused with the credit back into my account? maybe a computer error?

How long have you lived there ?

Something is wrong with your account and that might explain the money going back.
No RV should bill as you seem to be being billed and the computer system will only be able to cope with it for so long without throwing it's toys out of the pram
