i used the answers as posted in #22 and get different letters. I get:
ucasaeggsget
The anagram solver I used gave 153 possibilites, maybe they make sense to those who have readthe book? Anagram solver: http://wordsmith.org/anagram/advanced.html
EDIT:
I saw that puzzle 4 in post #22 has a different order then when the answer was first posted. Using the orginial answer, I still get different letters for 1-4-2 and 1-3-2. The letters for the final answer are then ucasahggsgut which to me still don't make sense...0 -

What I think is that each number refers to the puzzle, the line and the letter. Ie 1-2-3 is the 1st puzzle; 2nd answer/line; 3rd letter. Therefore U.
Perhaps 1-2-3 may be the 1st letter; 2nd answer/line; 3rd puzzle. There are six possible orders, but the ones like 1st puzzle; 2nd letter ; 3rd answer/line seem less intuitive?.“D’you know what a loser is?

I have put the answers down in a grid (does anyone know how to post a table) in the way the questions were asked, and have the following suggested letters for the anagram. However, I am still convinced there should be a way to whittle down the answers to question 4 into just 5 lines as all references in the final question are only referencing any numbers 1 to 5.
In the hope it helps with someone's inspiration, here are my answers:
1-2-3 U
1-4-2 E
4-1-4 A ??
3-4-1 S
1-3-2 C
4-2-4 H ??
2-5-5 G
3-2-5 G
1-1-1 S
5-3-3 R
4-4-5 U ??
5-5-5 A
Which come from the following "actual" answers to the puzzles (apologies if the formatting doesn't paste):

Surely the order is important here?
Tom had first met his best pal, a celebrated archaeologist from Sicily called Umberto, at Aix-la-Chapelle, when they excavated a site together which was believed to date from the time of Charlemagne. They had been friendly rivals ever since. Once, thinking it might amuse Umberto (and confident he was the better driver), Tom bought a couple of tickets for a track day at Silverstone. Although Umberto wasn’t all that keen to take part, he nonetheless took up the challenge when his friend goaded him saying, “Come on, Umberto, we’re doing this.” Unfortunately, Tom’s car vaulted the security tyres at the first corner, shot eleven metres into the air, and he cracked three ribs when it landed upside down. They haven’t spoken since.Like all revolutions, guerrilla goodness begins slowly, with a single act. Let it be yours.

Oh well, have given up - going away for the week so will not be able to solve this one. Good luck to everyone else though. I hope someone manages it.0

I think Puzzle 4 is the tricky little blighter that's causing the problems, if only we could get another "building or structure" between Arch and Chapel we could have another "E" in the final anagram.Like all revolutions, guerrilla goodness begins slowly, with a single act. Let it be yours.

This probably wont be any help, pellew as in ChaPELLE When they excavated, was a ship, HMS pellew if that can be classed as a structure ,and on board another ship there is a building named after sir edward Pellew ,and although i dont think it could be classed as a structure there is pellew island .0
