Dmbw~ do you have kids, what what a strange comment , telling someone to leave there children behind, this board does amaze me sometmes!

weve taken all of our as babies and we have 5, izzy went at nearly 1 and neraly 2,and she LOVED it.

Id be tempted to stay at a hotel appartment rather than rooms for the best of both worlds a bit more space and the hotel facilities, we stayed at the tradewinds at st petes on the beach and was lovely, the pools were soo quiet and right on the beach, sunset was beautiful.

It wasn't me that said that  I couldn't possibly do that myself never mind tell anyone else too.

Ahhh i automatically thought of Disney kind of area when you said so it might be a bit different a bit more southern.

dont be put off by the people saying not to take 8 month old.
Why should you let children stop you going on holiday,my daughter is now 3 and so far she has been to austria 8 months, majorca 12 months,orlando/miami 15months,new york 2 years old going back to orlando sept she is now 3.

where ever we have been there is always something to suite all ages especially at disney after all you are not thinking 18 30's or headanism.

personally i would look for a villa as they tend to be quieter than hotels etc

    I have to say - WHY ?

If you are going for a holiday, an 8 month old will be an awful "dampener" on what you can do and where you can go.

If YOU are desperate to go now, leave the baby with relatives in the UK - if you are desperate to take him/her, wait until they are a bit older, when they too can enjoy it.

We took our then 6 month old daughter to Hawaii and it certainly did not put a 'dampener' on the trip.

Both of our kids travelled to the states on numerous occasions when they were very young - and I would not have had it any other way.

Just be careful of the sun and make sure that your son/daughter is well covered with clothing and high factor cream.

Taking the kids did not restrict our activities and let's face it, for many, the US is not a boozy trip anyway.

    Enjoy!

I have to say - I agree completely with you.

Florida is great for kids of a certain age but 8 months ain't one of them.

Leave it at home or take someone to babysit in the evening so you can go out on the lash.

We have also stayed at Tradewinds at St Petes and at The Howard Johnson at Deerfield Beach, both very suitable for children!

Do you know I have just had a business idea, a Kennels/cattery type place for people to leave their kids while they go on holiday, looks like there would be a demand for it!

Probably from someone who has never had kids - luckily for them!

I've had numerous trips to America with my children, with them being aged from 6 moths old and upwards - and we've enjoyed each one enormously.

Just plan your days as you would back home e.g, you've got a little'un that needs regular meals and lots of sleep, plus be very aware of being out in the (more powerful) sun.
Accomodationwise, we found that villas suited us best when the children were tiny.

I just had to say that is the cutest picture! My parent took me to California when I was 6 months in the 80s and have very similar style photos minus the leis!

We went to Hawaii this year and my sister-in-law took her 2 year old with us. She screamed at first when I put a lei over her, but soon found it a nice toy to play with!

We did go on one hol to Greece when I was 3 and my sister was about 8 months ish and my parents left her with my grandparents, because looking after a toddler plus baby would have been harder. So I can see both sides. But if youre in a well equipped apartment or villa I dont see a problem.
