Late paying car tax

I did this for a month by accident, letter was sent to old address, when I noticed, or my friend noticed it for me by pointing out the date on my disc, I just went online and ordered a new one. It came and it was 6 months from the date my tax had ran out not 6 months from when I asked for it. So it looks like you will just pay for 6 months and get 4 months and the 2 you have alreayd used.0

I was thinking it was November that I had to pay but must have got out of sync by paying 6 months. Anyway, I am now worried about the consequences of this oversight.
What sort of fine am I going to get when I tell them?
Steve
I wouldn't count on getting away with it, these days you either Tax the vehicle or submit the SORN (statitury Of Road Notice) and it is an offence not to do so, as you should have done either of the above 2 months ago my guess is that you will recieve a nasty letter soon, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I've been in a similar situation myself.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
I did this last year, but was a month late not two. Went to the post office to tax the car and they refused to do it saying it was too far out of date for them to tax it and told me to take it to the DVLA local office, which I couldn't get to without a car!! Came home and taxed it online (which would let me do it) and expected to get a fine through the post but never did, maybe I was just lucky?Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death.

Thats the rub of it, back in the good old (pre sorn) days, you forgot and simply paid for the "gap", today they have tyhe nous to pursue, whether they do or not :A,I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
I have forgotten many times even though a reminder came in the post but sometimes I have had to wait a week until I get paid and they have never issued me with a fine. I think they do give you 5 working days grace if it ordered online. But this time my wages are 2 weeks late so I just declared SORN just to cover my back and I just got a friend to drop me to and from work in the meantime. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0

Can ask a question please?
If my tax runs out at the end of July and I don't want to drive in August is it easy to complete a SORN for August and then start tax again in Sept? If I do it on-line is it instant?
Thank you

aeb,
Yes I did mine on line and it will start SORN the month your tax is due to get paid. Mine ran out end of July and I phoned up one day before and it just said SORN will start from 1st AugustIt's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
