Late paying car tax

I've messed up. The other day I noticed that my tax is just over 2 months out of date.
I was thinking it was November that I had to pay but must have got out of sync by paying 6 months. Anyway, I am now worried about the consequences of this oversight.
What sort of fine am I going to get when I tell them?

none probably if you haven't received a fine yet. When you go to tax it you'll have it back dated to when it ran out0

Wouldn't worry. I paid mine over the internet on Saturday and it ran out yesterday. I'm expecting a DVLA envelope in the post tomorrow. Despite the 5 working days thingy on the website they are actually quite efficient.
You used to get 14 days grace but I think thats vanished. In any event if a DVLA ANPR vehicle clocks my car in the next 24 hours it will come back from the database as payment having been made so the bods in the van won't even bother getting out to look at the disk. My only likely source of grief is going to be an over zealous copper doing me for failure to display.
Fingers crossed.

They just issue fixed penalties from their records (£80 + pay for the tax disc from expiry of the old one) - you don't need to tell them (maybe your 2 months untaxed won't get picked up)0 -

pretty sure you get 6 days grace now, but that's only 'tax disk is in the post' grace. If you've paid online and showing on the system as taxed then you get 6 days to receive it and display it0 -
It's 5 working days, but only if you apply before the current one or SORN expires.0

So do I go to the post office to pay it and they fine me there? Or what?0

just go to the post office with you documents and tell them you want to tax the car. They'll probably punch the details in and then back date it to when it ran out. any fine will come from the DVLA, if you get one.0

What about questions about if I have used the car in the meantime, which I have? Is it still just the £80 fixed penalty?0

You won't get asked.
If the vehicle is not declared SORN it needs to be taxed, whether it is "in use" or not.0 -
As others have said just go to the PO and pay, I'm not sure that they will automatically date it from when it ran out.
Again you may or may not be fined, but would be good if you posted the result later.;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
