Didn't someone else recently get panned for suggesting that internet research regarding inherent faults in a Panasonic TV was not inherently (;)) valid?
Plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence", as I always saySquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

As neither of them are willing to repair for free you need to go down the SOGA route if you want a free repair. Did you tell LG that BB would not repair it ?
Yeah as you'd expect neither were very helpful and didn't want to know just spouting off the usual it's over a year old.Darren0

Do a "google" search for the model of TV that you have to see if you can find any other people who have had the same problem, and also see if there is any sort of LG owners forum where this sort of thing may have been discussed.
If you find out that this is a known and reasonably common fault then you might be able to use this as evidence that the TV has an inherent fault in its design rather than have to pay for a report.
Been doing that but there isn't anything about for my TV model really other people complaining about it on other makes of TV like Panny's etc and the main feedback seems to be a fault with the panel/a panel?Darren0

After getting nowhere with Best Buy or LG i called LG again to arrange someone to come and look to see what the problem was.He came and said it needs a new screen which is costly.I should have said before they came out LG made me call Domestic and General to take out cover. Now i've had a call back from the repair guy who has said he's been in contact with LG and they are not going to repair it as it's too costly and he said they'd call me.What should i be saying when they do if they refuse to do antthing else now?
 Thanks
p.s He did say it was a common problem so that covers me now under the SOGA right?:)Darren0

No. An LG engineer verbally confirming that the fault is common, does not prove there was an inherent fault. However, you might be able to convince LG that it will indicate, or pre-empt, what an independent engineer may conclude. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

they may replace the TV with a similar specification.
they may offer vouchers or a contribution.
Please bear in mind that you won't get all your money back, they will make a reduction for usage during the period you had it.
 Hopefully LG sees you right...0

Hi thanks for the replies it seems i'm stuck and pulling my hair out. This is what's happened so far:
Called LG last Tuesday who made me take out a years cover with Domestic and general at £178.99(£14.99 pm) so they could send someone out to look at it.
Called the repair man on Wednesday,he called on Thursday and looked and said it was a fauly screen and needed a screen replacement. He said he'd tell LG and ask what they want to do next.
Today(monday) he called to say they won't go ahead with it as it's not cost affective(it's costly to replce a screen so obviously is going to cost more than the D&G cover) and LG will call me(they haven't yet).D&G letter arrived and it says if it can't be repaired they will cancel the cover.
Called Best Buy just now to try and get them to replace/repair it under the SOGA but they just fobbed me off and were useless. They just kept going on about they have a duty of care with the SOGA or something they don't have to replace/repair the TV as it's over a year old and out of warrenty. They could send out someone like i've already had to look at it but at cost to me(what's the point in that i've already been told what's wrong with it)
What next apart from knocking it over or spilling something on it and claiming under my contents cover?;)
 Thanks againDarren0

What exactly is this D&G cover and what does it do?
I'm thinking its basically a type of warranty? On what grounds are they cancelling it if it cannot be repaired? They can't just cancel insurance cover because they don't want to pay out.
More importantly... why did you agree to this cover? It would have been a third the price to take it to a local TV repair center, get a report and go back to Best Buy.
 What next?
Do as you have been advised.... get an independant report. Clearly LG are useless at providing one, get a local guy in.
If the fault is inherent send it to Best Buy and give them the opportunity to repair it.
If they refuse threaten to go to small claims.
 ect
 ect0

get the money back from D&G too - I am VERY surprised LG told you to buy a policy for something which is already broken - illigal infact to insure something which is broken which you intend to claim on (if they could have repaired it you would have claimed on it).0

Buy a TV from someone who gives a 5 yr warranty with the sale. It will cost slightly more up front but you won't be: "made me take out a years cover with Domestic and general at £178.99" ...............!0
