As someone has said I am just looking abit of advice. The present is a gift.
Anyhow, thanks for all the helpful replies, order has been placed!0 -
The MSE way to do this is to change your name by deed poll to whatever your current car registration is.0

Agreed,Better things too spend it on than a personalised number plate!!!!
Maybe the person the O/P is buying it for has everything else?
And where do you draw the line on your MSE existence? Do we really need LCD TV's? Laptops? Computers?
Sometimes its nice to LIVE not just EXIST, and if someone wants a personal reg and it makes them happy, why not?0 -
Talk about the gift that keeps on giving - ours has cost an extra £400 quid in transfer fees so far

I had a personal plate for years. The 'trick' i used was i made the cost of the transfer the deal breaker when negotiating for my new car.
ie, say nothing about it until the very final stage of negotiations and until you've got their final best price and say 'i will do the deal if you pay for the reg transfer'.
That way the dealer pays for it.0 -
Mine has cost a small fortune recently. £80 to transfer off one car & onto the new one plus a new reg for the donor car. £40 in plates for the 2 cars plus admin fees for the insurance company.
Still, I bought it years ago and it's not going anywhere without me. Not very MSE this month but neither is getting a divorce so there we go :mad:0 -
You need to be careful how the plate looks. If the letters are mis-spaced or altered you are very likely to get a £30 gift voucher from the police. The DVLNI are notified and if you get 2 tickets the DVLNI will contact you to say they will withdraw the plate from use and you will have lost your money if you ate caught for a third time. Plates are only loaned out by the registering authority even if you pay £1000's for it.0

I would rather go for alloy wheels, roof bars, sat nav, etc etc.I had a personal plate for years. The 'trick' i used was i made the cost of the transfer the deal breaker when negotiating for my new car.

Saw an Aston Martin in Belfast today with the number plate LEWIS (I presume it was LEW 15). My first reaction was "nice car", followed by "Jesus, that plate ALONE probably cost 10 times more than my CAR!"

I don't think the car's owner would be a regular on here...0 -
Just to revive this thread, theres an NI registrations auction this Wednesday the 27th, does anyone have access to previous auction prices of sold numbers?0

You can get most of what you would want direct from the DVLA.0
