Personalised Number Plates

Hi,

Thinking of purchasing a personalised number plate. Anyone with any experience of this know of where is best to look (websites etc)?

Also, is there much hassle with 'registering' a new plate in NI as from the little I have read up it appears to vary from that on UK mainland.

I got one a few years ago now!!

I seen the plate on dvlni website then went to eagle registrations in portadown and they do the rest.

They have to registered on a vehicle in England then transfer the plate onto your vehicle here, it takes around 8-10 weeks for all to be completed.

I think it cost me in around £100 on top of purchasing the number plate!!

I think you can put old plates on a newer car but not new plates on an old car.

The plate you buy cannot be younger than the vehicle it's going onto (ie. you can't put a 1995 plate "N" reg on a car older than 1995)
Nor can the plate come directly from UK mainland stock / certificate, on to an NI Car as it must be transfered from another vehicle. This incurs a typical £80 fee.
All this assumes that we are talking about a UK mainland reg and not an NI reg, as these are dateless and can be transferred to any vehicle.
Personally, I've used www.newreg.co.uk everytime as they have always been the cheapest (and they pricematch)

And a wee note to remember - every-time you replace your car and want the plate transferred - it costs and holds up all the paper work

Talk about the gift that keeps on giving - ours has cost an extra £400 quid in transfer fees so far :(

I must be missing a trick here... From a moneysaving perspective, what are the benefits of a personalised numberplate?

Agreed ... just like those daft people that pay to walk around a field hitting a wee white ball, or go to those big warehouse like buildings with fancy TVs in them to watch a movie they can get in a few years on TV, assuming they've spent money on a TV & license rather than just sitting in their house on their own looking at each other.

That said, if the OP plans to buy a personal plate then here is a fairly good place to seek advice on, where & who to buy from ... for value for money.

I assume you'll read this later when electricity is cheaper & you're at your laptop / pc scouring the internet for other posts to criticise

There comes a time in life if you are lucky when you have to find a present for someone who has everything he NEEDS

A Personalised number plate is a WANT

And if one can afford it - why not?
