ok well, thats never a clever idea as thats known as fronting and in incidents like this they'd go through it with a fine tooth comb in the claims department as to why its you not the main driver who is taking the vehicle abroad
The higher premiums for younger drivers are there for a reason- to sift out boy racers using parents ncd-and it invalidates your insurance if sussed.
I deal with these every day-they look into how many vehicles are in the family, usage etc. At renewals our company slap on a large increase on premium so that the system makes us investigate all younger drivers on policies and the reason the insurance isn't in their name- only then can we reduce the premium

At your age I'm sure thats not an issue now, however...

The man didnt ring me yesterday but im sure ill be expecting a call sooner or later. If the man does agree for me to pay for the damage rather then going through the insurance company it would be better.
But that all really depends on how much a J reg Jaguar bumper costs and how much it costs to repair.0 -

Why is it obviously your fault? We need more details.
As someone mentioned, maybe the car in front slipped backwards?
Could you tell from the relative positions of the cars around yours, which one has moved? If not, then no one can say for sure whether he hit you, or you hit him.
Surely, as long as your car has an MOT, and even better if you can prove it's regularly serviced, no one could argue any negligence on your part. It's an accident due to the fact you're on a ship!
As far as telling your dad, honesty is most definitely the best policy, and tell him sooner rather than later. Why would you do anything different?

Is there any way that the ferry would have a look at their CCTV? I know it's a long shot but it could answer a very sketchy situation very easily - you'll then be able to see whose car hit whose.....

No, unfortunately it isnt a case of DPA and a tenner as DPA only applies to personal data and then only that which is sorted.
Companies will often give copies of tapes but you have a host of problems:
1) Traditional CCTV is recorded on specialist machines (there are a few types) and can only be played back on such a machine even though they look like normal VHS tapes
2) Footage is typically very poor quality and intermittent frames so even if it does show the incident frequently you cant even tell what has happened. Have had many tapes where you see the 2 vehicles doing nothing wrong and the next frame shows the 2 cars having hit each other so cant tell what had happened.
3) Companies will often charge for duplication of the tape and even more expensively will insist they will only release the tape if you pay for the tape to be professionally edited to only the period in question and all other number plates obscured - needless to say you pay this before you have even seen the tape to know if it is of use or not. As a former claims handler I have known companies charge up to £1000 and on occasions we have paid this and found the camera was pointing in the opposite direction to the accident.All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
