HBOS Reward account.

Contacted HBOS today and was informed I could upgrade my account to the reward account where I would recieve £5 for having £1000 paid in monthly.

This works well with my salary of £1029 going in the last working day of the month.

Can anyone tell me if they have had any problem switching? I would assume I keep the same sort code/account number and wouldn't have to inform my payroll dept or change any direct debits?

Any help would be much appreciated. I plan on putting the £5 reward into an ISA.

I switched from another bank to HBOS Current Reward Account and the £5 a month is really helpful. The HBOS staff were extremely helpful but, as I have quite a number of Direct Debits and Standing Orders coming out and I used their offer of a transfer service, they overlooked some of my Direct Debits. As a result they were not all paid. As soon as I found out and brought it to their attention they apologised (profusely) and made amends.

It has been a good move for me but I'd encourage you to keep close tabs on your account for the first month or so.

The OP is upgrading his current halifax account, not opening a new one and switching from another bank, so none of what you have said after your first sentence is applicable.

  • When I upgraded to the Reward account from their standard current account they sent me a letter as though I was a brand new customer including forms to sign and take into branch. Phoned them they said it were a mistake and to ignore letter. They then sent me a new cheque book continuation of the old one and a new reward debit card.

I kept the same account number and sort code, but I thought that was odd at the time. A new reward card I did expect though.

I only ever use it to move £1,000 over on payday by FP and straight back out again to get my £5 at the start of the new month. There is no interest on this account, unlike Lloyds TSB :-)
