british gas.....rip off merchants???

Yesterday my husband and i sat through almost a five hour grilling from a British Gas sales man! He quoted me £5467 !!!! for a sealed system boiler and removal of my boilers and cylinder .....i cant believe how other quotes ive recieved are a staggering £2000 cheaper! When asked why such an amazing jump in price he very kindly knocked of £160 to which i nearly laughed,
he continued on to explain that British Gas were second to none and that they would provide us with an amazing boiler that no other company could.........funny thing is..one of the companies had given us a quote for the very same boiler with a 5 years longer parts and labour guarantee!!!
He finally left after we agreed to go with them.....signed on the dotted line....i suppose at that point it was either that or make a bed up for him!!! Next morning I cancelled!
They are on commision.....the more they charge you, the more they earn....he addmitted this at least lol .....
well ill be using Eco heat who gave me a price list upon walking through the front door and explained every penny i was spending without the hard sale ..:0)

Why did you sign the agreement then?
BG typically quote 40% more than independent RGI's.
I do hope that the contract gives you the right to cancel. Since the sale was done face to face there is no automatic cooling-off period in law, only what BG's own T&C's may offer you.

I had a quote from BG too, it was £4500 which i expressed shock at lol. No way would I have signed anything tho and the guy didn't pressurise me so at least thats a good thing. I have had quotes from indepentant people and its coming up £1000 cheaper if not more!
