Hi all!
For the past year now (its taken this long ) so far! I went through HSBC to complain and claim back my PPI on a loan through them! as per usual i didnt get far! So i went the the FOS (Ombudsman) who was soooo helpful! Its taken about 9 months in total for a reply and the FOS always kept me updated! Yesterday i got a letter in the post from the FOS saying HSBC are willing to pay out a sum as a good will gesture! However it doesnt tell me the amount and it says if i am happy then to not contact the FOS and i will automatically get the payout! Of course i will phone the FOS to chase up and see what the amount is! Has any one else out there ever had a letter like this? Or know an amount? Or an kind of similar experience of getting these letters! Its looking promising but i am CONFUSED!! Plz advise xx
Please post any comments! Thanks

Hi there
Just also posted on the other thread but no worries.:D;)
I would ring the Adjudicator tomorrow and ask if they can get hold of the figures for you - in order for you to make your own mind up, because if your not happy and they don't change it you can take your case to the ombudsman to have it reviewed, although the case will be looked at completely again.
Or ask the adjudicator if they think you should contact the HSBC to ask for the figures, hope they will help.
It's hard to decide if there is no actual figure confirmed isn't it?
Good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Hi there, sorry am new to this site and posted twice lol opps!!
. so if i phone the FOS tomo, then they should help? I got the main letter through with a fact sheet but i find that a good will gesture payment sounds a bit fishy! Good will gesture! HSBC are the ones who ripped me off in the first place with PPI! I am so so hoping its a larger amount ! If its a small amount and i am not happy?? Does the FOS start the process again? and will it take weeks or months???? Jon

Hi
I got the same sort of letter. They said it's for Our bank to work out following their guidelines. If there is a problem once your bank has made the amount offer you can always go back to the FOS. The FOS said they have 8 weeks to make us an offer.
I think a few people have had the same letter with no amount on.0 -

Hi there
No worries.
You can ring the FOS if you want to, I can see Rebecca have also responded to this and it seems you can still go back to the FOS in regards of the calculations. (the adjudicator currently dealing with your case).
A goodwill gesture can mean they can still pay the full without accepting liabilities or they will offer what they think is reasonable.
Basically if you do get to know the figures and your not happy with them you can let the Adjudicator know this, and if you decide to have this reviewed all again by the ombudsman its difficult to predict a timescale, some can take weeks or even months, but as Rebecca says is helpful, this way you won't have to go as far as the ombudsman as such.;) Good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Hey again
I phoned both the ombudsman and HSBC. The ombudsman had no info on the exact amount offered by HSBC, but they did confirm that HSBC would refund the amount of PPI that i have paid for the past 5 years or soAnd also an extra 8 per cent interest paid on top
YAYY! also HSBC did confirm this when i phoned them!!! Would any one on here be happy with that result as i think the amount will be over 2000 pounds. I do have the right to take it further as we all know and to see if i am offered more.... is this advisable or can it end up with me ending up with nothing? I may just be happy to accept the offer and see what HSBC offers in their offer letter!! Any views on this please???? :T

Hiya
WOW that is absolutely fab :T:j Congratulations!
Well in my opinion that is all the way then and they will therefore calculate to the FOS guidelines who you can also ask to check them for you afterwards as well.
So yes its the one to accept I believe, well done x:);)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
